Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization’s Annual Conference

ADAO Announces Line-up for Annual Conference

The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), a leader in education, advocacy, and community initiatives in regards to asbestos and asbestos exposure, has announced the schedule for their 13th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference, set to take place in Washington D.C. from April 7-9, 2017.

Asbestos Disease Awareness OrganizationEntitled “Where Knowledge and Action United”, this year’s conference will feature more than 40 doctors, scientists, experts, and victims of asbestos, notes a press release by the organization.

These conferences, which began in 2005, are one-of-a-kind and the only events dedicated solely to the sharing of information and ideas to prevent asbestos exposure and eliminate asbestos-caused diseases.

Attendees include not only professionals dealing with asbestos use, research, or diseases but also laypersons who have been touched by exposure to the toxic mineral.

Speakers this year include Jordan Zevon, singer and son of rocker Warren Zevon, who died of mesothelioma in 2003 at age 56, his disease most likely caused by exposure to asbestos during childhood.

The younger Zevon has become an official spokesperson for the ADAO. Also on the docket is author David McCumber, a veteran newsman and current editor of the Montana Standard.

McCumber will likely speak about the plight of the town of Libby, Montana, site of one of the world’s most horrendous environmental disasters involving asbestos.

“Now, like never before, the ADAO conference is of upmost importance to protect the public health and the environment,” said President and Co-Founder of the organization, Linda Reinstein.

“Building on our successful endeavors over the past 13 years, including the most recent inclusion of asbestos on the EPA’s top ten list of high-risk chemicals, this conference is an important reminder of the power of knowledge and unity in action. We welcome our attendees from across the globe who share an important goal: to end asbestos exposure once, and, for all.”

In addition to meetings, lectures, and round-table events, this annual conference will also include an awards ceremony to honor those who have fought for the rights of asbestos disease sufferers, a Unity and Remembrance Brunch to honor those who have passed due to asbestos exposure, and – for some levity – a dinner cruise down the Potomac River.

The organization notes that this particular conference adds something new – an art-driven advocacy theme which will include performances by those from various arts-related fields including musicians, comedians, filmmakers, and others.

ADAO’s conference brings together all of the perspectives regarding the issue of asbestos-science, public policy, and the impact on families.” explained Dr. Arthur Frank, ADAO Science Advisory Board Co-Chair, urging anyone touched by asbestos to consider attending the 3-day-long conference.

“The ADAO conference raises awareness and prevention knowledge,” adds mesothelioma patient Lou Williams, who attended last year’s event.” Asbestos destroys innocent lives. We need to unite and eradicate asbestos from our world.”
